So Liverpool has never been high on my list of places to go. I have always thought it likely to be rough (and this is someone who went to uni in Glasgow). After 4 days here for a congress I would have to say all my preconceptions have been fulfilled. At its most basic, a hotel that requires three bouncers (not doormen, obvious bouncers) does not shout "class".

So you didn't love Europe's capital of culture? I have to say, when I've been there I've just not found it a particularly pleasant place to be. They're supposed to be doing some huge regeneration stuff there but I don't get the impression it's going to be an improvement - just a huge shopping centre.
haven't been for a while - and doesn't sound like I remember it to be which is sad.
The scousers I know are all big softies really, though they'd hate me for saying it!
It is unfair to judge a city based on 5 days, but nothing I saw was hopeful. I was at uni in Glasgow, and everyone else had the same image of Glasgow as I have of Liverpool, but I found Glasgow a fantastic city. I am sure Liverpool has something, but I didn't find it.
