Tick Tock

Homes in Plymouth were evacuated last night because an old bomb was found. This was reported on Radio 4 where they said that "the bomb disposal squad have made the bomb safe and taken it out to sea". I love this image, where they have given it a comfy jacket and some pillows to rest on and are now taking it out on a pleasure cruiser for a sightseeing trip of Plymouth Sound.

Reminds me of the time we had reports of an unexploded bomb on a construction site I was working on.

We spoke to the MOD who reassured us that the risks of construction work upsetting a buried bomb were quite small, but what exactly was it we were doing? We replied that we we were driving 20m long sheet piles into the ground with a 3tonne hydraulic hammer.

The reply was "yep, that'd do it".

He suggested we stop operations until we could do an X-ray survey - happy to say we were one step ahead ;-)

Which was a great relief as that bloody hammer was not helping my burgeoning migraine at all...
