Gren (or Grenfell Jones to give him his full name) has passed away. This is the passing of an icon. I grew up with Gren cartoons. Grens drew for the South Wales Echo for 40 years. His cartoons of rugby, sheep, and a welsh way of life, have passed into legend. As creator of the village of Aberflyarf he cannot be forgotten by any who grew up in the valleys of South Wales. An unusual, and I suspect mainly unknown, part of history is that he was a founder of the Barron Knights (then known as the Knights of the Round Table). He was awarded an MBE for services to the newspaper industry.
He had a fine and satirical outlook on a country he loved and will be missed.
